Typically, these confections are made with sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder and butter. Our version includes cinnamon and instant espresso for heightened flavor. Classic brigadeiros are coated with only chocolate sprinkles. But to add nuttiness, we mixed chopped cashews into the sprinkles.

Tip

Don’t turn up the heat to rush the cooking; the chocolate mixture can easily scorch. Medium heat and constant stirring yield a perfectly smooth, silky texture.

Ingredients

    cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder, sifted

Easy candy-- as promised
Made as directed except swapped a Starbucks Via package for the espresso. It was almost exactly the right amount. Flavor is good and rather sophisticated. I would like to try it without the coffee and the nuts (just use sprinkles) for a kid's version. Also, I used a half tablespoon measure rather than the full tablespoon. Size is just right since the candies are so rich. I think my chocaholic grandson will love them! I am testing the adult version with my book group tonight. Thanks!

Delicious!
We fell in love with brigadeiros during a trip to New York. I was so excited to make these for my family and the recipe worked beautifully. They are little balls of pure, delicious joy. I rolled them while the mixture was still a tad warm and it picked up the sprinkle/nut mixture easily. I had a bit of cinnamon sugar mixture left over from some cookies and rolled a few of the brigadeiros in it--yum! Don't be intimated--make these!

Great recipe!
I let my cooled mixture sit for a little over 30 mins and noticed the balls had difficulty picking up the sprinkle mixture-- I fixed this by warming the balls up on a plate in the microwave.

Missing a step?
At the very end of the Directions, there seems to be a step missing: from putting the candies on the rimmed sheet to storage. Are the candies supposed to cool in the refrigerator for a few minutes, and then put into a storage container? Thank you.

Very runny and fudgy
I follow the instructions just as they were written. Let it sit for 30 min. Still runny, almost like a Sunday fudge type. Decided to throw it in the freezer for 30 min, no change. Then another 30 min same. Total of 1 hour and half in the freezer. As soon as I took it out from the freezer and firmed up, it still would not hold the shape, once I try again. It was pretty bad. They look like round cookies but very very runny and thin, like fudge. Was hoping to serve for guest. But won’t be doing that😩. The flavor is super good but does not look like what the pictures indicates. I’ll give it another try.

I found the chocolate mixture hard to work with - very sticky and difficult to roll in a ball. The taste of the cinnamon overwhelmed every other flavor.
