In France, gâteau au yaourt is a cake that uses an entire container of yogurt then cleverly employs the empty container as the measuring cup for the flour, sugar and oil. It’s easy to throw together and a perfect recipe to make with children. If you’ve got a 4-ounce container of yogurt, bake the cake in a 9-by-5-inch loaf pan; if it’s a 5.3-ounce container, use a 9-inch round cake pan. Either way, the number of eggs and amounts of both baking powder and salt remain the same. The cake is very forgiving this way. It’s also a blank canvas, so feel free to flavor it to your liking with vanilla or other extracts, ground spices or grated citrus zest. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.

So Good!!
This kind of reminds me of a pound cake, but way better! I added 1 tsp of pure vanilla paste, and it was really good. I didn't have any fresh berries on hand, but I think they would make a nice addition, as well.

Easy to Make - Fun to Customize
I buy yogurt in bulk so followed the measurements recipe as indicated below by the author. I also added some vanilla (I believe a teaspoon) and the zest from a cutie orange (I didn't have a navel orange in my fridge). While I believe the addition of the orange juice extended my cooking time (closer to 65 min for a loaf pan on convection), the loaf came out beautifully and tasted lovely. I did use greek yogurt and had no issues. This will be my go-to for quick gifts. Looking forward to experimenting with various flavors.

Excellent recipe!
Everyone loved the cake. I appreciate the simplicity of the recipe, but it would be great if Milk Street authors could list the ingredients in weight too, for us nerds. According to my maths, the conversions are as follows: - 4 oz plain yogurt (1/2 cup) (I used Greek yogurt, and worked out well) - 4 oz neutral oil (1/2 cup) - 7 oz sugar (1 cup) - 7. 5 oz all-purpose flour (1. 5 cups) The rest as in the recipe.

Delicious
I used cabot triple cream greek yogurt, this is so easy and the result is fantastic! Hard not to devour the whole cake myself.
